Sensory Play at Somerset House

Sensory Play is a temporary multi-sensory installation designed with adults in mind. It is nestled in the vibrant heart of London's Edmond J Safra Fountain Court, within the iconic Somerset House. Its primary objective is to stimulate and challenge sensory perception in playful ways. It also aims to reignite their innate desire to explore and touch, and rekindle the joy of play.

Touch is frequently overlooked or prohibited within public spaces, failing to recognize its immense potential. Sensory Play, however, places touch at the forefront, highlighting its multifaceted nature through qualities such as surface temperature, roughness or smoothness, hardness or softness, contour identity, and vibration. Accompanied by secondary modalities such as: vision (shape & size, colour, shade & shadow, space, motion), sound (localisation, loudness, pitch), smell and kinaesthesia (position and movement of body parts) it offers an experience that stimulates and challenges the senses.
